Great Lakes Distillery of Milwaukee, Wisconsin has been awarded a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for their Rehorst Premium Milwaukee Gin. The event is considered the industry’s most prestigious spirits competition and was held in San Francisco on March 15th and 16th 2008. An international competition which this year had 847 entry’s from 63 countries, the event is a “blind” tasting in which products are judged on taste alone. A “double gold” is only given when all judges unanimously award a product a gold medal.
The gin, made with a recipe of nine botanicals is the first to include two unique ingredients; Sweet Basil and Wisconsin Ginseng, which is considered to be the finest ginseng in the world.
Upon winning this prestigious award, distillery founder Guy Rehorst said “Our gin has only been produced since last summer, we knew it was special, but to be rated at the top in the premier international competition is thrilling beyond words. Based on the reaction from our customers and the competition judges we’ve evidently created a spirit that is very special.”
Great Lakes Distillery, one of the smallest distilleries in the US is an artisan distillery located in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The first distillery in Wisconsin since the end of prohibition, Great Lakes Distillery currently produces two products; Rehorst Premium Milwaukee Vodka and Rehorst Premium Milwaukee Gin. “Our business is founded on passion. We’re a small handful of people who really like great spirits and we put a lot of work into every product we release- we only release products we love ourselves and recognition like this makes all the hard work worth it” said Rehorst.
